I was invited to a musical from an amateur group, which turned out to rawk nicely, and while I went there two times, the photographic results were..bad. I did not set up my cam right, i used the wrong films, i was in the wrong spot, and the lightning was horrible (for photographs). So I got some LSD-shaken thingies that could pass as photos of alien spacecrafts. I enjoyed my self though.
The good news are, I found about a contest by the Greek Ornithology company, http://www.ornithologiki.gr, that has the most fitting subject; nature photography. I am not going for any prizes or something, but it will keep me moving through the summer, taking good photos and walking in nature as I love to do so. It ends at September, so plenty of time to goof around.
On a last note, today is post day, so check for pics later (probably after 0300 GMT though).

B/W Medley

Sorry for a tiresome post just then, i get like that when I have a headache.
Some time in my hands, and a scanner working post-format C:/, have reminded me of the time when I had fun at a certain studio with some pals of mine, wiskeyed to the floor, trying out one of my first B/W rolls of film, a certain Kodak BW at ISO 400 if I recall correctly. The results were shaken, not stirred with two olives, and happen to be one of my most appreciated (by me) rolls.         Ergo, pictures;

I liked back then to play with my flash, not burying it in a hole in the ground (there lives a hobbit), and I discovered that unlike color photography, it can be beneficial and artistic, instead of a simple detail hunting documentative tool. And I prove that with a set of two individually nice and gloomy pictures of a simple theme, one describing perfectly good the subject, in a mellow way, allowing the background to mix up and back the subject, while the other brings out every detail in a harsh way, that in conjunction with the lightning gives us a single non-flat texture that contrasts nicely with the black lettering, now easily confused for letters shaped from a dark thick liquid that was put upon the surface. In the total absence of background the subject is pulled forward towards the viewer, and looses part of its identity, being able to be mistaken for a gong of larger dimentions, or a cut tree trunk used for hammering, were not for the letters saying its origin.
Pre-flash
                                                          Post-flash

Other interesting things that happened that night was the visit from aliens,
and the trip to their spaceship,
Really.

P.S. Probably yes, and if not, I am sure you are familiar with the book and the story in general. Look around you.
You get the picture.
People running around chasing something, people acting strange and irrational in ways that do not hurt anyone but "obstruct" normality and the general smooth flow of things, people just standing there smoking their pipes doing nothing, authoritative figures enforcing obscure laws and the like. The thousand-and-tenfold web of interconnecting goals obstructing and aiding each other that creates a chaotic mosaic for minds to trek, and respective goals to meddle. You get the feeling.
Lest we forget, through chaotic models come infinite possibilities but no evolution whatsoever to the system, and through lawful models arises a infinite amount of possible evolution, though it is through a single "possibility" that defines and is defined as reality. The middle road as advertised commonly is a classical example of a Crusador-istic hard to follow path combining both ways, has been tested and proven to be non existing. Society is a chaotic through and through "system" that achieves its own identity from its own building blocks, trying to create their single one-man lawful cluster of serenity, ending up to being a multifaceted gem, reflecting outwards the outgoing effort of a myriad of single cells trying to stabilise at their own, unique, spot. And from out this gem is observed, despite the fact that it is being made buy the observers from the inside out.
I need to restart my PC now, updated drivers downloaded and installed. It is at Epson's online page, support section, drivers subdirectory, link to ftp server ect ect. Sounds pretty normal for any European owner of an Epson thingie. But not for me! Yes, I am complaining for little reason, an over-nuked FTP server is not that uncommon, even in large corporations, and I finally got the drivers and scanning software for my CX3650 scaner/printer/photocopier/coffemaking (with a method that includes crawling down to the dungeon in 3 o clock in the morning, shuffling through countless ruined by moisture CDs, fighting my way through waves of spidery-thingies that have taken over the place since I left, and other creepy stuff), obviusly from my long lost installation CD.

Why would you care? Well for starters, a fellow human managed to break through difficult situations and achieve his ends ect. Also, I got the scanner working.

I preformed like 20 or so test scans to get the best quality/filesise/viewability match, and I got down to use 24 bit colors, 300dpi scan resolution, 2039*1396 pixel save resolution (and larger if I deemed fit), saved all at .jpeg format, with 9/100 quality (1/100 being the best possible), with progressive encoding and extra Emendal Cheese and pickled eggs, and occasionally some red wine. The resulting filesize was about half a MB, really low for my tastes so I picked up resolutions/compression ect at the last pic just to test the limit.. Well, actually the limit was the pure-unencoded-RAW .bmp I got at the beggining with 900dpi and 4 minutes scan time (~120MB). That was an experience.
Without (much) further delay, Photographs!

(err might me a good idea to open them with windows Preview thingie so as to see them whole and zoom in for the details. just a suggestion.) (did I mention these were scanned from 20cm*30cm prints?? no i guess.)

click to view fullsise please :)

Well, this is my grandmother. Sitting at the balcony not expecting to be photographed, at around 6.00 in the afternoon. Sun sets behind her head, balcony is raised ~15 meters from ground level. This picture turned out better than expected, because it was taken hastly in order for my grandmother not to realise I just got out and was aiming at her. It is one of my first photographs, when I was still learning how to use it (full auto settings, more on the cam later). Expression captured was not posed for, but just came from the momentary thoughts that she had at the moment, which in my oppinion is the major factor in this picture.

Here is another one.

                                                            same applies :)

Yup. Its a spider web. On the rocks. This picture was taken with one hand, the other being used to hold onto the rock, and after 6 hours of trekking/climbing with a friend, some months ago if I am not mistaken. It is usual for us to go on hiking trips. Me, I do it for the photos, the exercise and the occasional feeling of fullfilment(spelling????), he does it to explore the land where it is not wise to tread alone. There were many spider webs at that cape we trekked, and i got some on them in film, despite my fatigue and sweating at the moment... I liked this one because there are more than one webs in it, the sun shined on the main web nicely, and the rocks have a nice texture to capture. Nature is generally one of my main themes, because of the abundant details, the beauty of them, and the complexity of the themes you can get. I am not really into portraits, as they are a bit difficult for me. The pic also has some macro elements, not being entirely a close-up but revealling a lot of minute details, on a variety of spatial levels.

This is the pic I scanned at a higher resolution, so zoooooom out!

                                                            you guessed it :P

Obviusly from the same place, taken at the same trip, with the same theme. More macro-ish this time, with one main plain, making the external blurred info a nice envelope for the main thing. One could argue (and I hope someone does) that secondary segments with their out of focus-in focus alternation take attention away from the theme, but I would say that as the theme, the web, is not enough to hold attention, they contribute to the total time spent studying this picture, balancing the attention to every part of the frame. The blurred branch that is highlighted behind the web is a minus for me, because it confuses and interferes with what you want to see, but options are limited when that branch is part of the tree you are holding on to for dear life. You get the picture (oooh pun!).

That was it for today, summing up what I had available at 20*30 format at the time. I will get round to scanning 10*15 pics eventually. I hope you liked the photos this far, and I ask for your oppinions and comments about them.

Ooooh it works it works! At my first post, let me just give you the conceptual background of this effort. For some time now I have taken an interest in Photography. Having bought my first "serius" camera for some time now, somewhere between 3 and 4 years, and using numerous one-use cammeras beforehand, I became a supporter of film photography, for varius reasons. As it is obvius, my archive of apx. 700-800, maybe even near to 1000 i didnt bother to count, photographs is in analogue printed format. That instantly creates a workload barrier for them to be scanned so they can be previewed digitally online, not at maximum quallity in any case, but also serves as a buffer medium for the steady and uninterrupted long-term flow of pictures. Which is good.
While i get my scanner up and running, there will be some pictures I took with a digital camera (woe the travesty!) and some extra bits of information, introductions ect. It is essential to add that I am not proffesionally occupied with photography, and my "good to bad" ratio is somewhere near 1 to 30 as I gather. I have not taken any course or the like, but have read and studied many principles of photography theoreticly, and practiced a bit on them. I am a physicist after all, but more on that later..
Anyways, here is a test pic, just to see the page format, make corrections ect..
Thank you for being here!

Postscript; I do not know if this shigamabang is the full picture, if it links to it, what is my Upload limit ect ect but in time all shall be set. More info on the photographed subject later! Oh and yea, please inform me if you want to use any pic for something, as they may be not all mine and stuff, but in general I dont have any problems with sharing with others what I do. I am not a pro.
